MARVELOUS PIG in Old Ottawa South

PIG & THE CITY
 HELENE LACELLE & PETER EVANCHUCK
 LIFEofPIE
until end of AUGUST
1134 Bank St in Old Ottawa South

'NOT in the LOUVRE but in the LOO'

One of life’s little miracles happened to create this show, our cottage neighbor sold us this plastic pig for a pack of smoke. Turns our the pig is a DON FEATHERSTONE.

DON FEATHERSTONE created plastic pink flamingoes in 1957. He worked at UNION PLASTICS in FLITCHBURG, Mass. He and his wife dressed alike for 35 years.
In 1996 he won a NOBEL PRIZE for ART for creating those pop, plastic FLAMINGOES we see on millions of lawns.
AND WE BOUGHT HIS PLASTIC PIG FOR A PACK OF SMOKES, imagine?

CREATIVE juices flowed new show, new ideas, out comes PIG & THE CITY

Out we went to photograph Old Ottawa South using Featherstone’s PIG with PEOPLE&PLACES to produce this new show and soon a new short comedy drama called PIGGIRL

For those who have seen the movie comedy BABE this idea will bring smiles

EVANCHUCK's photos are made marvelous by partner LACELLE using traditional painting techniques combined
with modern computer assistance this enhancement creates what the artists call MARVEOUS REALISM ( think of DALI )

NEW IN THE LOO !

NEW MARVELOUS-NESS IN THE LOO !
LIFE OF PIE
1134 Bank Street, Ottawa
June 24 - July 24
M E N A L O N E
These Canadian BEAUTIFUL BACHELOR’s
have all overcome Life’s obstacles
– poverty, mental illness, marginalization -
to shine with the beauty and courage of self-awareness.

Peter Evanchuck one day looked across the familiar tavern tablewhere he was
hosting the KNOW IT ALL CLUB’s annual meeting when he realized that he was
the only ‘hitched man’ there - he was surrounded by know-it-all bachelors.

EUREKA the jug was empty, the light went on what a show this would make
since each and every man there was by his definition a
BEAUTIFUL BACHELOR

Thus began the cross Canada search from men of equal ilk.

theOLD-theNEW-theMARVELOUS art display by HELENE LACELLE and PETER EVANCHUCK at LIFEofPIE

LACELLE (aka NEONMATISSE ) highlights a decade of her art from theOLD folksie art of LadiesINwaiting to theNEW collages of mapping a history of a family-a time-a generation to theMARVELOUS REALISM of ABANDONED where the landscape images of PETER EVANCHUCK form the basis of the scenes that with LACELLES marvelous ingenuity, skills and art become an eerie exploration of style they call MARVELOUS REALISM based on Magic Realism - simply put: 'taking usual and making unusual'

The landscape REALISM images were shot by Evanchuck in the Maritimes last year before re-occuring cancer/3 surgeries slowed him down. The MARVELOUS art work was performed/imagined by LACELLE in Ottawa using modern and traditional techniques

This show uses the full restaurant with MARVEOUS REALISM on the walls in the main room of The LIFEofPIE as well as on the walls in the LOO ( not the LOUVRE but the LOO mmm? )

LACELLE and EVANCHUCK display their creative works in every way they can imagine from street walls on buildings, to alleys in Montreal, to LOO's (washroom walls), the sidewalk beside Metro, the cancer clinic at the General, to the entrance to Ottawa University, to galleries from coast to coast to coast .... avoiding pretention, nonsense, and gobblegook ...

ART IN THE LOO! NOT THE LOUVRE!

LACELLE and EVANCHUCK  have collaborated to produce a rather Marvelous Realism using Evanchuck's photographic images of Blueberry shacks on the #7 and Lacelle's artistry to add the marvelous to those realistic images and of course the dolls - abandoned Dolls from the maritimes to Ottawa, dolls found in old abandoned homes in the Maritimes, on junk piles in Toronto and Hamilton, in Variety Village at Niagara Falls, at the Bargain Box on Laurier and dozens of other accidental finds of abandoned dolls.

Images were shot during recent ice storm - one has to wait to 'get the right image the will display the atmosphere the 'feel'  - the ice storm produced the perfect feel of emptiness, loneliness, the harshness of life surrounding the inhabitants.

The show draws in the viewer to help them 'feel' the strangeness of the area - of course the viewer may form their personal thoughts on the combination of creative techniques used to add an odd and unmistakable 'feel' to this presentation - don't expect the ordinary from creative people and certainly not from Lacelle&Evanchuck

The #7 highway from Perth to Madoc is ancient in many ways .... untouched for decades with modernity, an olden days display of abandoned properties, junked vehicles and a sense of loss... that sense one feels as they drive the two lane blacktop road trippin' thru Ontario's hinterland looking at the way things used to be and still are.

There are no condos here, no hipsters just the stillness of that past that lingers into the present ....

theOLDtheNEWtheMARVELOUS by HELENE LACELLE & PETER EVANCHUCK - CAFE NOSTALGICA

theOLDtheNEWtheMARVELOUS art by HELENE LACELLE & PETER EVANCHUCK
from 04Feb to 29th at Café Nostalgica, 601 Cumberland on the Ottawa UNiversity campus
theOLD:
a retrospective of the past decade and a half of LACELLE’s art work.: tracing her various styles, forms and reincarnations. Her experimentations in ‘new’ art makes even these ‘old’ art pieces look contemporary.
the NEW:
prolific artist HELENE LACELLE has created a completely new set of collage images for showing at CAFÉ NOSTALGICA. Entitled – theOLDtheNEWtheMARVELOUS
LACELLE’s technique is rather unique in that she sees her ‘art ‘ on the canvas not in her head. In her collages, using old photos loaned from a German baroness as a central focus, she creates  and enhances them into her personal ‘art’ by mixing in various images/styles from many sources that together form an overall effect of modernity i.e. new-ness. They are complex yet very simple, very effective.
theMARVELOUS:
continuing her collaboration with partner PETER EVANCHUCK on MARVELOUS REALISM CANADA, LACELLE has created new additions to the original abandoned homes photographs of EVANCHUCK. This portion of the exhibit is called ‘A DOLL’s HOUSE’
One Toronto critic referred to LACELLE as the NEON MATISSE of Canada due to her colourful, neon-like imagery. Self taught she has been making art all her adult life winning many awards, hanging in several galleries/art places in Canada and the U.S. with sales on line and around the world.
Former professor EVANCHUCK now devotes his time to filmmaking, photography, writing, curating. He has produced several feature films, scripts, books as well as many docs over his ongoing career.
The abandoned homes represented in MARVELOUS REALISM were shot last year in New Brunswick.
